01 Feb 4 Tips On How to Clean Prescription Glasses Properly
Are you wondering about how to clean prescription glasses properly? Your prescription eyeglasses not only allow you to see more clearly at specific distances, but they are also an investment in the health and longevity of your eyes.
Our Markham optometrists offer four tips on how to clean prescription glasses, plus how NOT to clean your glasses and what to avoid.
How to Clean Eyeglasses
Tip #1 – Use Eyeglass Cleaner and a Microfibre Cloth
Tip #2 – Use Lukewarm Water and Gentle Dish Soap
The best way to clean your eyeglass lenses, frames, and nosepieces is to wash them with mild dish soap. Gently rinse your glasses under a stream of lukewarm water. Apply dishwashing liquid (lotion-free) in a small drop on each lens. Gently rub the lenses on both sides, and around the frame and over the nose pads. Rinse under lukewarm water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
How Not to Clean Prescription Glasses
Tip #3 – Avoid Eyeglass Sprays And Cleaners
Surprisingly, many of the eyeglass sprays and solutions can damage the delicate coatings on your lenses. We suggest avoiding these products altogether.
Tip #4 – Avoid Using Your Clothing, Paper Towel, or Tissue to Clean Your Lenses
These materials can cause scratches and damage coatings on the lenses.
