NEW EYE EXAM TECHNOLOGY – Optomap Retinal Scan

Optomap Retinal Scan in Markham Ontario

New Optomap eye exam technology is now available. It can only be described as a huge technological leap forward for Optometry.

A digital retinal camera, the Panoramic 200 Scanning Laser Opthalmoscope, called the OPTOMAP, captures a detailed, 200 internal degree image of the retina (the back of your eye).

This Optomap Retinal Scan gives an unprecedented view of the retina that detects eye disease in its infancy-far beyond the capability of conventional eye exam technology. Conditions such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, Retinal Detachments, and changes caused by general diseases such as high blood pressure and Diabetes can be diagnosed. These diseases are often not accompanied with pain or other symptom, and can lead to blindness if left untreated.

The Optomap eye exam is one of the most important diagnostic tools to have been developed for Optometrists. Used in conjunction with an annual eye exam, many eye diseases are treatable before they result in severe vision loss or blindness. With the Optomap retinal scan there is generally no need for dilating drops that typically cause blurred vision and sensitivity to light.

Our Markham eye doctors strongly recommend that all patients have this unique eye test done, including young and youthful eye patients.
